Southeast Asia to July 2026: $12.8bn across 178 rounds — capital up 137%, deal count down 30%
Totals jumped on data-centre and AI infrastructure mega-deals, but there were fewer rounds. Do not use mega-deals as a benchmark for valuation or pay.

The State of the Startup Ecosystem in Southeast Asia 2026 report (Second Talent, published late August 2026) records $12.8bn raised across 178 rounds to July 2026: capital up 137% while deal count fell 30%. It explicitly warns against benchmarking pay against data-centre and AI infrastructure companies funded at that scale, since doing so ends your runway before it ends theirs.

Total Southeast Asian acquisitions as of August 2026 (Tracxn)
Tracxn data updated in August 2026 fills in the structure: Southeast Asia has 67 companies at unicorn status, has recorded 2,938 acquisitions, and its two most-funded sectors are logistics tech ($21.1bn) and payments ($20.8bn). In other words, regional liquidity comes from acquisitions rather than listings, and historical capital sits in two sectors with identifiable strategic buyers.
