Week of 11 August 2026: $17–18M rounds still close, with angels sitting beside institutional leads
Amid AI megarounds, mid-size rounds keep closing: Axle raised a $17.5 million Series A and Quartr raised €15.6 million ($18 million).

On 11 August 2026, Axle — a New York insurance fintech — announced a $17.5 million Series A led by Base10 Partners, with Y Combinator, Gradient, Stage 2 Capital, early Plaid team members and angel investors participating. The same day, Stockholm-based Quartr raised €15.6 million ($18 million) led by Altos Ventures, with SEB taking part. The contrast is clear: Crunchbase reported $392 billion into U.S. and Canadian startups in H1 2026, mostly from late-stage AI megarounds. The market runs on two levels — megarounds, and mid-size rounds where angels still hold a place on the cap table.
