Angel syndicates back in focus as regional deal counts thin out
Crunchbase News highlighted a Kazakh angel club that channelled more than $2 million in six months — a model worth revisiting as Southeast Asia posts its lowest equity deal count in eight years.

In an analysis on Crunchbase News (June 2025), a Kazakh angel investor argued that syndicates are becoming a force shaping startup ecosystems, especially in emerging markets, by pooling capital, expertise and networks. He cited MA7 Angels Club: more than 100 members and over $2 million deployed within six months, backing startups such as Pioneers, Zeely and Zibra.AI.

equity deals in Southeast Asia in Q1 2026, lowest in at least eight years
The regional backdrop makes the model more relevant: DealStreetAsia reported Southeast Asia recorded just 98 equity deals in Q1 2026 — the lowest in at least eight years — even as value hit its highest since Q4 2022, and July funding fell 84% from June. When institutional money concentrates in a few large deals, first-round pricing falls to domestic individual investors.
