Payments group Fexco commits £7.5m to fintech Tenora
Strategic capital from an operating company rather than a venture fund, backing the venture built by Argentex's founder after he left his previous firm.

According to Crowdfund Insider, Harry Adams — founder of foreign-exchange specialist Argentex — has secured fresh capital for Tenora, the fintech he launched after leaving his previous company. The backer is Fexco, the Irish payments and currency group, which is committing £7.5 million, of which £5.5 million is an equity stake. This is corporate venture capital in its most direct form: an operating company in the same industry providing the money, rather than an independent venture fund.

The equity stake within that commitment
For Vietnamese fintech — where payment intermediary, FX and bank-connectivity licences decide whether a product ever reaches the market — strategic capital from an industry group is often worth more than a high valuation from a fund. An angel investor sharing a cap table with such a corporate should do three things before signing: (1) read the exclusivity and right-of-first-refusal clauses closely, since both narrow the list of future buyers and therefore narrow your own exit path; (2) insist on separating the equity portion from the commercial commitment, as in the £5.5m of £7.5m structure here, so you know how much you are actually diluted; (3) tie the commercial commitment to specific milestones — referred customers, technical integration lanes, delivery deadlines — rather than a general partnership promise, because the real value of corporate money is distribution, not cash.
